Live Streaming - Day Twenty Five

Well that's the end of phase one.

Each week for the past five weeks I've played at a different tempo, tweaking a live template. So I have one for 80bpm, 90bpm, 100bpm, 110bpm, 120bpm and 130bpm. I did not dedicate a week to 130bpm because I don't go up to that tempo that often. But I have a template ready for those days.

Ableton Push

While I found the first edition of the push easy to pick up without ever diving deep into the manual , the push two is an altogether more powerful and complicated beast. This page lists all the resources I've found thus far.

Live Streaming - Day Twenty Three

Tightened up some of my backing tracks. With more clips and drum racks with fx and cutz available means the improv is taking on as much of a trip hop vibe as it was a more synth and four four drive based groove up to now.

I'm using the push to navigate as much as I can with the screen to confirm what I am doing.

Live Streaming - Day Twenty Two

Only three tunes for the repetoire, extended to nearly ten minutes each and filter out to make room for an eclectic, chaotic glitch techno set. Some nice breaks downs heavy use of vcvrack randomness and plenty of squelchy noises form the Mother32 and MS20.

I'm thinking about making every tuesday a #dawless session.

I'd need to be able to switch form Ableton live being the master clock to something else. I'll see what options I have.

Live Streaming - Day Twenty

Four weeks without missing a single workday. Now today I could have missed the session without breaking my deal with the universe. Every weekday I stream, except for vets and dentist appointments. And today was vet day. But I skipped jogging (every Mon, wed and fri) instead since I made no deal with the universe 'bout that.

Live Streaming - Day Eighteen

Played a lot of my rendered tunes layered with the live instruments. What worked especially well is working with works-in-progress that are nicely mixed but missing a few instruments. Working off the cuff, with a small element of panic and the need to keep things simple because it's live, leads to things like using a volume fader to skip drum hits. I would never do this in a mouse and keyboard session, but live it is magical.

VCVRack is working great (the sum of the parts and all that), as it blends into the rest of the studio.

Live Streaming - Day Seventeen

VCVRack makes a great ambient reverb music machine as an accompaniment to the rest of the set. I love it.

Unfortunately I can only use one page on the novation launch because of button latch. But even limited to the sixteen knobs and 8 buttons, it has great potential to get things rolling at least. Saying that tho' looks like Omri Cohen has a better solution.
