Ableton Live

Live Streaming - Day Nine

Today the funky grooves, extended basslines, some vocal and scratch drum racks, my external synths, the ableton push and the two drum machines all worked in tandem to create a techno (if you can do techno at 90 bpm) right thru to some hip hop and breaks onto some ambience and out of time stuff as I had envisaged from the beginning.

Or so I thought.

Apparently the audio stopped streaming after 20 minutes. At least I didn't know or care. I have no listeners at the moment, (that's not the point) so the audio cutting out is not a big a deal as me being late, for example.

Live Streaming - Day Eight

I opened with setting up VLC and programming the kick on the drum machine. I started the session view with some Ableton live cells hastily filled with Simon Harris drum loops and a handful of drumracks with vocals and scratches etc. The 303 supplied the basslines and I spend most of the time on the matrix brute and the jp-8000, a lot less time on the drum brute and tr-8. I used vcvrack as a breakdown, my only control being able to raise and lower the volumes of eight channels of the vcvrack console via the novation launch control.

Live Streaming - Day Seven

A few samples from my Simon Harris Battle DJ vinyl and CD rips, attached to a delay. The effect is to soften the techno or tech-house vibe and add a bit of funk. I really didn't use the backing track at all. If that's the case I might as well move over to the session view with columns and cells and stuff.

Live Streaming - Day Six

Well there's one for the books, I was more looking forward to the jog than I was the live stream. I had no preparation. This week I'm focusing on the Daw. I want to get some drum racks with DJ battle scratches and loops, some fx racks. Maybe live can provide distortion for the jp and maybe some delays.

The Daw and The Dawless:

I swing both both ways, I want to go completely hard sometimes and only use live as the sync. Other times I go completely soft and ... Ok enough of that.

Live Streaming - Day Five

Two hour set from a one hour backing track, that's one hour of improv! See, I told you it would work, and in the first week!

Ok so not smooth in that a listener can probably pick out the prepared stuff over the live improv, but it's all music and it worked well.

Next week I'll focus on the DAW Ableton, now that I'm happy with the direction the studio is taking. I'll load up some loops midi and audio and start working on how I can transpose two synths at the same time and how to move out of one groove and into another.

Live Streaming - Day Four

Forgot my finger drumming lessons on melodics today. Dammit. Well I just need to beat 3 days in a row next time. No jogging today which is good, I'm still in pain from yesterday.

The stream went well. Kaizen. A little bit better than yesterday which was a little bit better than the day before.
